About SKIPS

From a Spark of Insight to a Movement of Empowerment

The idea began when Bernadette, an educator and post graduate student, was tasked with supporting new special education
teachers. As she walked beside them, she saw their passion — but she also saw the weight they carried. The gap between
university theory learned and real-world classroom application was wide. Resources were limited. Time was scarce. And the
demands placed on teachers were growing faster than the support available to them.

Her research revealed something powerful: when educators could simulate their daily work, capture their processes, and
reflect on their performance, transformation happened. Confidence grew. Skills sharpened. And the teaching experience
became more intentional, more supported, and more sustainable.

From this vision, the SKIPS methodology emerged — and evolved into SKIPS software platform, a system designed to assist
educators, strengthen practice, and create space for meaningful professional development.

What SKIPS Makes Possible

SKIPS blends subject-matter learning with performance-based data to help individuals grow with clarity and purpose. Its tools
are intuitive, supportive, and designed to honor the realities of daily work.

What began as a solution for new teachers has expanded into a platform that empowers:

  • Schools and districts seeking stronger instructional practice
  • Higher education institutions preparing the next generation of professionals
  • College students committed to personal and academic growth
  • Workplace cultures striving for excellence at every skill level

SKIPS is more than software — it’s a companion for learning, a guide for performance, and a catalyst for transformation.

What Makes SKIPS Unique

The initiative began as a support effort and evolved into an examination of subject matter expert frameworks alongside human performance factors.

  • Focus areas included persistent workplace challenges such as time constraints, limited resources, cultural issues, and operational disruptions
  • Case studies suggested these challenges extended beyond, impacting job satisfaction, sustainability, and productivity.
  • Analysis of skill acquisition led to the development of a skills continuum for measuring realtime task execution.
  • This model integrates competencies and domain-specific expertise to define key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify skill development areas.

A meta-analysis of professional literature examined:

  • Leadership across organizational levels
  • Employee health, particularly job stress
  • The impact of these factors on task execution

Workplace learning was analyzed in relation to strategies for engaging employees learning while tracking performance in the following areas:

  • Leadership skills
  • Job effectiveness
  • Team-building capabilities

Findings revealed a shift from subjective methods to an objective, data-informed performance framework for continuous learning and improvement.

A key question emerged:

  • How can information technology support individuals in reflecting on, evaluating, and improving performance impacting both successful and unsuccessful task execution outcomes?
  • This led to the development of SKIPS tools to identify and address human performance factors in workplace processes.
